A brave boy!

As Ravi posted earlier, Rohan has been sick and not been his usual self these past few days. I spent yesterday with him and had the best time. He wanted me to just hold him, hug him and talk to him, which I did. We spent some time sitting in the garage, Rohan on his stroller and I on a lawn chair. He loves looking at the birds and the cars go by. He sat there for almost 30 minutes, which is a lot.

We were able to play small games all day long - staring at the mirror, pee-ka-boo, ball, tickle tickle. I realized yesterday that he is very ticklish! He also loves coming out into the lawn and enjoying the breeze.

All in all, he is a brave boy. Even with fever and discomfort, he maintains such a good disposition.

Not getting any better X-(

I'm really concerned that Rohan is not getting any better. The fever doesn't seem to be subsiding at all :-(

Richa stayed home with Rohan today. I had some important meetings and had to go to the office. According to Richa, Rohan was fine during the day, though a little subsided, perhaps from the pain in the ear. He wasn't tugging at his earlobe, so hopefully the pain is not as severe as it was yesterday. Then again, when Richa took his temperature at approximately 12:30, it was around 100 degrees. She gave him a little tylenol, which he took (thank heavens!) and slept for a couple of hours.

I came back from work at 6:00pm and Rohan's temperature hadn't subsided at all :-(. We fed him a concoction of rice and lentils and he seemed to like it. His grandmother (Richa's mom) came visiting to ask after his welfare at 6:30pm and she was the one who fed him. He ate his usual quantity, which is an extremely good thing. He seemed to be extremely sleepy, probably due to the fact that he hadn't slept much the entire day, so I brought him to the bedroom and tried putting him to bed. But he would have none of it! His body seemed to be burning, so I took his temperature, and sure enough, he was running a temperature of about 101 degrees again! This is just not acceptable! We have to find some way of reducing his temperature. We tried to wet a washcloth with cold water and apply that to his forehead, but he doesn't like that at all! -- he cries whenever the cold washcloth touches his forehead. We have given him some tylenol, but it doesn't seem to be having any effect. He seems delirious from fever and does not seem to want to sleep, but just keeps crying and crying.

It's too much. Why does a small baby like that have to suffer so much? It's unbearable. :-(

Sick again! :-(

Rohan fell sick with his second ear infection today.

3:30pm: Richa got a call from the Montessori Day Care center saying Rohan was running an above 100 degree Fahrenheit temperature. She called me, Ravi, as soon as she heard from them, and I left work right away to pick him up from the Day Care center. Meanwhile, Richa called Rohan's doctor and made an emergency appointment.

When I reached the Day Care center, Rohan was a little less cheerful than his usual self. Subdued. Uncharacteristically calm.

4:00pm: I drove him straight to the PAMF clinic. I was happy to make it just in time. We checked in at 4:20pm, the exact time of the appointment (which, in reality, meant that we were 5 minutes late).

5:05: After an interminable wait of 45 minutes, we managed to see Dr. Hadiwidjaja, Rohan's pediatrician. The diagnosis was not good. Rohan had a fresh ear infection, the second he has had so far. The worst part was, since he is such a small infant, he *has* to be given anti-biotics (were he a little older, the doc said, they would have held off on the antibiotics and just observed him). It was clear Rohan was suffering -- he was crying and whimpering, and the whimpers were becoming increasingly intense. This was the first time I had seen Rohan complain due to a fever and it was NOT a good feeling at all. You could see he was suffering, and you couldn't do anything. That broke my heart. And in spite of being in so much pain, when Dr. Hadi directly looked at him and spoke loudly, what did Rohan do? Responded with a BIG smile! I almost DIED! I must have done something good in my previous life to have deserved such a sweet baby.

11:05: Rohan slept for a 3 hour stretch after we brought him home from the doctor's office. He awoke hungry, so Richa fed him some sweet potatoes and corn. I administered his first dose of the antibiotic (Amoxicillin) and since he was feeling very warm, I gave him some Tylenol as well. Bad choice. He didn't like the taste of the Tylenol and vomited all the medicine out -- Tylenol as well as the Amoxicillin. Unfortunately, with babies as small as him, since you can never tell how much exactly has been vomited, you can't re-administer a dose: you can end up overdosing. So no more medicine for him for tonight. Poor fellow has been crying and trying to fall asleep for almost 1 hour now. I feel so powerless. :-(

I really hope he has a better day tomorrow...
